Adopt-a-Flowerbed Program

Contact (360) 482-2651 for more information!

The Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds invites individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations to help beautify our grounds through the Adopt-a-Flowerbed Program!

This volunteer-based program provides an opportunity for community members to take pride in the Fairgrounds by adopting and maintaining designated flowerbeds throughout the property. With the help of dedicated volunteers, we can create a welcoming and attractive environment for visitors attending events throughout the year.

Adopting a flowerbed is a year-round commitment, with maintenance responsibilities varying by season.

Program Guidelines

  • Year-Round Commitment: Participants agree to adopt and maintain their assigned flowerbed throughout the entire year, including seasonal upkeep during fall and winter.
  • Who Can Participate: Individuals, families, businesses, and community groups are welcome to participate. Groups must designate one primary contact to communicate with Fairgrounds staff.
  • Designated Locations: Planting and maintenance are limited to flowerbeds approved and assigned by Fairgrounds staff.
  • Availability: Flowerbeds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Planting Approval: All new plants, landscaping changes, and significant modifications must be approved by Fairgrounds staff.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Adopters are responsible for keeping their assigned flowerbeds clean, healthy, and attractive throughout the year. Responsibilities include:

  • Regularly removing weeds, litter, dead plants, and debris.
  • Providing personal hand tools and supplies needed for routine maintenance.
  • Visiting and maintaining the flowerbed regularly.
  • Planting, pruning, and maintaining flowers and other plants as approved by Fairgrounds staff.
  • Applying mulch and performing seasonal maintenance as needed.
  • Preparing flowerbeds for seasonal changes, including fall cleanup and winter upkeep.
  • Reporting irrigation issues, damaged plants, or other concerns to Fairgrounds staff.

Seasonal Expectations: While planting and active maintenance will be most frequent during spring and summer, adopters are expected to continue caring for their flowerbeds during fall and winter to keep the Fairgrounds looking its best year-round.

Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds Responsibilities

Fairgrounds staff will support program participants by:

  • Identifying and assigning available flowerbeds.
  • Providing guidance and approval for plant selection and landscaping changes.
  • Managing existing irrigation systems and watering schedules, where available.
  • Recognizing participating individuals, businesses, and organizations with signage near their adopted flowerbeds, when appropriate.
  • Monitoring the condition of adopted flowerbeds and communicating any maintenance concerns to participants.
  • Providing reasonable notice and an opportunity to address maintenance concerns before reassigning a flowerbed if necessary.
