Message From New Manager
It is with great excitement that I begin the position of Grays Harbor
County Fairgrounds & Events Manager on April 1st. Many of you
already know me and I have had the pleasure of working with you during
my time as Deputy Director, 1987-1997. Since that time my
fairs involvement has continued and I have served on the Fair Board,
the Washington State Fair Association Board, and as Public Relations
Coordinator working with fair sponsors and Media. We are extremely fortunate
to have a hard-working dedicated staff, fair board and army of volunteers
that have continued to insure the fair and many other events are a success.
One of my first goals is to meet with the fair building and barn superintendents
and volunteers. I would like to meet with each one individually, as
departments, and then as one big group. To help move forward with 2002
plans please jot down your concerns, suggestions, and ideas ahead of
time. You can call the fair office, mail them, or email us at:
ghfair@techline.com.Again,
I am very excited to be working with you and sincerely thank each of
you for your dedication and involvement. I look forward to seeing you
soon!Debbie Adolphsen
New Building in the Future
We currently have two major fund raising projects in
progress. The Equine Committee is raising money to build a covered entry
on the back of the Pavilion Arena and the 4-H Dog Clubs are raising
money to build their own building. The Equine Committee consists of:
David Trusty (Chair), Greg Osgood, Larry Mielke, Marv Cole, Deb Tice
and Beth Grant. The addition on the back of the Pavilion Arena will
create a safer, cleaner, more attractive, year-round entrance for all
horse clubs and 4-H youth. In the future participants will be able to
wait for their turn out of the elements of weather. The next fundraising
effort is a dinner with entertainment provided by Tony Wintrip on Friday,
April 12, at 6:30 pm. Come out and support the Equine Committee and
have fun at the same time. The 4-H Dog Clubs have been sharing the outdoor
covered arena with all the livestock shows for many years. The goal
of the 4-H Dog Clubs, with the leadership of Rhonda Borden and Joan
Vance, is to raise $80,000 for their own building. It will be large
enough to include the required 30'x40' show ring and benches for all
the dogs. The effort was started with a donation of $1500 from Deputy
Keith Fouts after loosing his K9 dog, Tor. Just recently the Bishop
Foundation granted $20,000 to the project. You will see the kids at
monthly swap meets selling baked goods and various other items. A unique
way to help is to buy a plaque for the new building in memory of a pet
or for a current pet for $25.00.

Grays Harbor Mounted Posse Indoor Rodeo
The Grays Harbor Mounted Posse Indoor Pro Rodeo, March 15-17, was a
huge success. Each year the posse has continued to stage one of the
best quality rodeos in the Pacific Northwest. With profits made the
Posse supports 4-H Youth projects and fair ribbons, scholarships, and
awards. Thanks to the Posse members for all the hard work and dedication.
Fair Board
The Grays Harbor County Fair Board consists of nine members appointed
by the board of County Commission. Board members meet monthly and all
of them serve on committees throughout the year. Recently there have
been several new board members appointed. We would like to welcome them
and thank all the board for their time and dedication to the fair and
events. Current board members are:
